Anthony Chang

Bio

Anthony joined TL in 2002 as the firm’s first Kauffman Fellow. Anthony’s venture experience began in 1998, when he co-founded and built Magictel.com, Inc., one of the first voice-over-IP service providers in Greater China and Southeast Asia. The Company conducted a reverse takeover of a publicly listed company in Hong Kong and raised over US $100 million in secondary offerings. Anthony subsequently joined GE Equity in Hong Kong where he focused on early-stage venture opportunities in Asia. He was also part of the private equity team at Peregrine Investment Holdings (one of Asia’s largest investment banks during the 1990s) where he handled technology and communications-related investments. Anthony’s investment focus includes consumer-focused opportunities as well as wireless and semiconductor-related companies. Anthony current portfolio companies include SkyCross, Inc., Pivotal Systems Corporation, Optichron, Inc., VeriWave, Inc., Maskless Lithography, Inc. and Moonshoot. In addition, he was also actively involved with the firm’s successful investment in Ciclon (sold to Texas Instruments) and Ikanos Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: IKAN).   Since joining TL, Anthony has developed TL’s capabilities in Asia to support the firm’s portfolio companies with supplier, distributor and customer relationships. Anthony leverages his strong ties in both Silicon Valley and Asia in sourcing and evaluating new opportunities, as well as assisting various TL portfolio companies in garnering Asian customers. Anthony began his career at the San Francisco Consulting Group, a strategic consulting firm focused on the communications industry. He also worked briefly in Lucent’s Mobility Solutions Group. Anthony holds a BA with Honors from Stanford University and an MBA degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and is proficient in Shanghainese.
