Bio

Doug has spent the past 25 years in the media, entertainment and technology industries and enjoys an impressive track record as an investor, board member, entrepreneur and operating executive. For the past 10 years, Doug has been a Managing Director at Selby Ventures where he focuses on seed and early stage investments in the digital media, Internet and mobile sectors. Doug was one of the original venture investors behind Pandora Media (www.pandora.com), now the largest online radio service with over 60 million registered users. Doug was also an early investor in Coremetrics (www.coremetrics.com), a leading web analytics company, and Bigfix (www.bigfix.com), an Internet enabled software company, both of which were acquired by IBM in 2010, Panopticon (www.kana.com), a personalization technology company acquired for $100 million, and 4info (www.4info.com), the largest mobile/SMS ad network with over 50 million monthly unique visitors. Doug was also an early advisor to Glumobile (www.glu.com), one of the first mobile gaming companies to go public. Doug began his career in the early 80's producing concerts while a student at UC Berkeley before heading to Hollywood where he developed popular TV gameshows including "Win, Lose or Draw" and "The Joker's Wild." Anticipating the growth of interactive entertainment, Doug joined Electronic Arts (EA) in the early 90’s as a development executive where he produced over a dozen titles for the Company. Following EA, Doug became Senior VP/GM of Turner New Media, managing the division’s interactive businesses including Cartoon Network online which became the leading website for kids with over 1 million monthly visitors. Doug left Turner in 1997 to become President/Services of Internet TV startup, Navio (later Liberate), which went public for over $1 billion in 2000. Most recently, Doug has been providing capital to established artists in the music industry through Artist Capital Group (ACG). Digital distribution has fundamentally changed the music landscape and has created the need for alternative sources of capital. ACG provides asset based financing to a variety of music partners including artists, songwriters, publishers, publishing administrators, and indie labels. Among others, ACG has provided project finance to the former members of the band, LIVE, as well as to Rocket Science , an independent label services company who released the new Chrissie Hynde album, Fidelity. He is also passionate about microfinance, where as a 7 year advisor to the Grameen Foundation (www.gfusa.org), he has helped raise millions of dollars from Silicon Valley. Grameen Bank’s founder, Professor Muhammad Yunus, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008.
