Bio

Johannes von Bismarck is responsible for sourcing, executing and monitoring private equity investments in Europe across all media segments, with particular focus on the German, Austrian and Swiss markets. He led the acquisition of Kabelfernsehen München (KMS) for VSS III's investment in German cable TV operator Pepcom and the Spanish online direct marketer Canalmail. He also co-led VSS Fund IV's investment in German newspaper publisher Berliner Verlag (BV) where he sat on the board of Directors. He was responsible for the sourcing and execution of BV's three add-on acquisitions Berlin Online, Hamburger Morgenpost and Netzeitung, and actively involved in the sale of BV. He is currently a non-executive Director of Pepcom, KMS and Canalmail. He was also actively involved in the acquistion of VSS IV's interest in Spanish mobile content provider LaNetro Zed and British digital satellite broadcaster Chart Show Group. Prior to joining VSS's London office in 2004, Johannes von Bismarck was a Director at the U.S. and European media-focused investment bank Communications Equity Associates (CEA, now Goetzpartners), within the European media and entertainment industry group, where he specialized in television broadcasting, cable television, film production, film distribution, sports rights and publishing. Prior to CEA, he was part of the investment banking team at the German private merchant bank Joh. Berenberg, Gossler & Co. (Berenberg Bank) in Hamburg, working on mergers and acquisitions, structured finance and leveraged buyout transactions. Johannes von Bismarck gained his first M&A experience as an attorney at the German Trustee Agency (Treuhandanstalt), advising on the privatization of former East German companies. He started his banking career with a two-year training program at Deutsche Bank. Johannes von Bismarck is a trained attorney-at-law with degrees from the University of Munich and Supreme Court of Berlin. He holds a diploma in banking and earned a Ph.D. in international comparative law from Humboldt University of Berlin.
