Thought leader in the structured angel investor group movement in the United States since the early 1990's. Founding member of the Angel Capital Association (ACA) in the US, and now Chair Emeritus of ACA which consists of 200 angel groups. Co-founded a national investor group, The Investors Circle, which still operates with over 200 members. Managed several venture funds in the 1980s and 90s. As managing partner of New Vantage Group, of Vienna, VA since 1997, has helped to organise four regional angel groups, comprising over 250 individual members, joint ventured with three other management groups. On the advisory committee for Verde Ventures, the venture fund of Conservational International. Founded New Vantage and is the managing member of over 50 early stage investments within the regional angel groups' portfolios and has pioneered the manager led Limited Liability Company format for group angel investing. Sits on a number of non-profit boards of directors. He is an active angel investor and is part of the formative team creating a World Business Angel Association. Batten Fellow at the University of Virginia's Darden Business School and is the author of two books on angel investing.
