Bio

Michael J. Petrick is a Managing Director and Head of Global Market Strategies, as well as a member of the firm’s Operating Committee. Mr. Petrick leads Carlyle’s array of leveraged finance, mezzanine and distressed teams. He is based in New York. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Petrick had a 20-year career at Morgan Stanley. In addition to being Global Head of Institutional Sales and Trading, he presided over numerous businesses at Morgan Stanley during his 20-year career, including: Global Head of Corporate Credit; Global Head of Non Investment Grade; Global Head of Distressed Investing; and Global Head of Leveraged Finance and Restructurings. In these various capacities, Mr. Petrick was responsible for a diverse set of asset classes including: equities, commodities, corporate, residential, commercial, proprietary trading, tax and direct investments. Mr. Petrick has served on the boards of DigitalGlobe and TVN Entertainment, American Household, Marvel Entertainment, Premium Standard Farms, Pacific & Atlantic and CHI Energy. Mr. Petrick graduated with a B.A. in chemistry and economics from Grinnell College, and earned his M.B.A. in finance from the University of Chicago. From 1990 to 2010, Mr. Petrick held Series 7, 8, 24 and 55 licenses. Mr. Petrick currently holds Series 3, 7, 8, 24, 55 and 63 licenses.
