Bio

Tim Oren is an Internet and Silicon Valley veteran with more than twenty years experience in corporate and technology management, consulting, and software engineering in the software, multimedia, Internet, and professional services industries. A co-founder of Pacifica Fund, Tim also serves as a research fellow of the Menlo Park think tank Institute for the Future, where he has conducted technology strategy and forecasting for clients including Ericsson, Kodak, Hewlett Packard, and Deutsche Telekom. He was previously General Manager of the Internet division at CompuServe, where he managed the launch of ISP SpryNet and CompuServe's web hosting services. Prior to CompuServe, Tim spent eight years at Apple Computer, where he managed Apple's first ventures into multimedia and led R&D on hypertext and full text databases, multimedia agents, collaborative systems, and online communities. He concluded his career at Apple as director of network software for Kaleida Labs, where his team designed early interactive television systems. Tim began his West Coast career at pioneering software firm Digital Research in 1984. He left Digital Research with its founder, Gary Kildall, to form the startup KnowledgeSet, which created the industry's first CD-ROM based encyclopedia. Tim is the holder of three U.S. patents. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science and an M.S. in Systems Science, both from Michigan State University, where he was an Alumni Distinguished Scholar.
