As co-chairman of Marcus & Millichap, Mr. Millichap acts in an advisory capacity to the largest and fastest expanding investment real estate brokerage firm in the nation. In 2009, Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services closed more than 3,400 transactions valued at $9.6 billion. The company specializes in the brokerage of apartment buildings, office buildings, shopping centers, industrial buildings, seniors housing, manufactured housing, self-storage facilities, hotels and motels. The firm has a national presence operating over 75 offices nationwide. In addition to his role as chairman of Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services, Mr. Millichap is also a board member and a managing director of Marcus & Millichap Company, headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif. Marcus & Millichap Company owns and operates a network of enterprises involved in real estate services and asset ownership. Mr. Millichap is also the managing partner of Marcus & Millichap Venture Partners (MMVP). MMVP's goal is to invest in real estate-related technology start-ups. MMVP portfolio companies that have gone public include Springstreet (part of MOVE.com), Loopnet (LOOP) and REIS Reports (REIS). Current portfolio companies include Accruent, Corrigo, Catalist Homes, Homesphere, MyNewPlace and TTI Mobile Mr. Millichap is a member of and has served on the board of directors of the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC), the largest trade organization of apartment owners in the United States. He was the Chairman of the Political Action Committee for that organization. Millichap is also a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, the Urban Land Institute and the National Venture Capital Association. He also has been a board member of the following companies: Essex Property Trust, a real estate investment trust traded on the New York Stock Exchange (ESS), Loopnet the leading commercial listing service for real estate on the Internet (NASDAQ under LOOP), REIS Reports (NASDAQ under REIS). In addition he was one of the founders of San Jose National Bank and also The Mid Peninsula Bank of Commerce where he served on the board of directors. Both San Jose National Bank and the Mid Peninsula Bank of Commerce were acquired by the Greater Bay Bancorp which was subsequently acquired by Wells Fargo Bank. Mr. Millichap graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Maryland in 1965 and served as a U.S. naval officer prior to joining the firm.
